About Us

Founded in Sudan in 1948, AOAG has emerged as one of the largest exporters of agricultural commodities in Sudan. With over 60 years in the field of trade and investment, AOAG has established deep ties within the agricultural market of Sudan, as well as a global footprint expanding across the Middle East and North Africa region, particularly through Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

We procure commodities from smallholder farmers that are accumulated at our warehouse facility for inspection and checking, then transported to our processing facilities for further quality control prior to export to customers. AOAG annually exports approximately 50,000 metric tonnes of products that include sesame seeds, groundnut kernels, peanuts, hibiscus roselles, gum Arabic, corn, sorghum and senna leaves.

Exported Products

Hibiscus Flower

The hibiscus is the national flower of Haiti and is widely used in the Sudan and known locally as Karkade. It’s a frontier natural product grown in the form of a flower and is known to lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol. Dried hibiscus is traditionally used as a drink either hot or cold.

Gum Arabic

Gum Arabic is a dried exudation obtained from stems and branches of the Acacia Senegal tree or Acacia Seyal trees, which can only be found in the Gum Arabic belt that includes Sudan, Chad, Senegal and Nigeria. Sudan is one of the major exporters of the commodity producing over 70%. Gum Arabic has wide-spread uses in the food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, textiles and painting industries.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame is known as a survivor crop given the conditions it grows in and is considered the oldest crop known to humanity. There are many uses of sesame seeds like oil and food ingredients and they come in different colors depending on the cultivar harvested, the most traded of which is ivory colored. Other common colors are tan, gold, brown, reddish, all of which are provided by AOAG.

Ground Nuts

Also known as earth peanuts are in fact botanically legume. Sudan is considered to be one of the top five producers of the ground nut or earth peanut, and holds 14% of the worldwide production share. It’s main uses are food consumption, oils, as an additives to solvents, and in local medicines and cosmetics.

Sorghum

Sorghum is the fifth most important grain in the world with different colours red, white, yellow. It is harvested in eastern Sudan and our group has exported 500,000 tonnes to Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Pigeon Peas

Pigeon pea is a perennial legume from the family Fabaceae, and known locally as Adseya in Sudan.

Strategy

We recognise that staying close to farmers requires an interlinked approach to help them improve agricultural production. AOAG focuses on how to increase small farm holders to increase crop yield, by educating them with numerous benefits such as planting improvements and high performance seed adapted to local farming conditions.

Logistics

AOAG’s transportation function was incorporated into the group in 1972 and encompasses a land transportation fleet including heavy transportation vehicles. By owning and managing our own logistical infrastructure we maximise efficiency thereby realising significant cost savings. AOAG also has an established in-house, custom clearance and port handling capabilities in Port Sudan since 1969.

Certifications and Standards

AOAG’s Q&M management department was introduced in 2016, in line with the applicable ISO & IFC standards. AOAG works together with EGLAC accredited ISO quality control to monitor and inspect quality of its products. AOAG, is in the process of achieving ISO, ISF, HACCP, FSMS, QMS certificates for its trade house of agricultural commodities.
